Stool Examination

Stool Examination

To detect parasites residing in the intestines or other organs connected to the intestines. This examination also assesses the function of the digestive system, including nutrient absorption, and other conditions as follows:

  • Appearance: Observe if the stool is liquid, solid, contains mucus, or has blood.

  • Stool Color: Stool color is influenced not only by the food we eat but also by bile secreted from the gallbladder and bleeding in the digestive tract. White stool may indicate bile duct obstruction. Black stool, or tarry stool, can suggest bleeding in the stomach. Stool mixed with fresh red blood usually indicates bleeding from the large intestine.

  • Parasite Eggs under Microscope: Examine for parasite eggs using a microscope.

  • Occult Blood Test in Stool: Sometimes, the amount of blood present is too small to be seen with the naked eye. In such cases, chemical reactions are used to detect blood in the stool. A positive result indicates bleeding throughout the digestive tract, which could be caused by stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal cancer, or hemorrhoids.
